How about a huge hotel made of solid blue sapphire?

Would it be possible to build a hotel where the external walls are made out of sapphire? Sapphire's chemical formula is Al2O3 (the 2 and 3 are subscripts), and it might be possible to synthetically create enough to build a hotel out of. They're making diamonds under high pressure conditions nowadays, so why not sapphires? Mining sapphire would be prohibitively expensive, so it would have to be chemically manufactured. I like sapphires so much, that I might even want a sapphire wedding ring instead of a diamond ring.

I'm a fan of corundum myself, but even lab created sapphire is expensive. It would not be economically feasible. Plus, although a sapphire rates a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, this is no comparison to building materials like steel or concrete. Even diamond, which is 48 times stronger than corundum, can be broken or chipped. So, no, it would not be possible, hon, but it would be beautiful, I agree. Yes, but it wouldn't look very good in a few years, and it would be costly to repair.
