How about a huge hotel made out of solid blue sapphire?

Would it be possible to build a hotel where the external walls are made out of sapphire? Sapphire's chemical formula is Al2O3, and it might be possible to synthetically create enough to build a hotel out of. They're making diamonds under high pressure conditions nowadays, so why not sapphires? Mining sapphire would be prohibitively expensive, so it would have to be chemically manufactured. I like sapphires so much, that I might even want a sapphire wedding ring instead of a diamond ring.

It could be called Sapphire Spire, and since it would be so sturdy, it could go up to 30 floors or more! How about a huge hotel made out of solid blue sapphire?
Maria,

Why not? People have sculpted entire buildings out of ice! I'm sure after enough production, a hotel could be made from sapphire. It will cost truck loads of money and will take a really long time, but it sounds COMPLETELY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY AWESOME. When you build your hotel, can I stay in it for free? After all, I'm a mineralogist, and my research on mineral crystallization makes things like your sapphire hotel possible. If not, can I at least have coupons for, say, stay two nights and get the third night free? Then I can vacation there in the summer. I can't wait. It will be like being surrounded by the same mineral wholesomeness that is already in my heart. Only more tangible. How about a huge hotel made out of solid blue sapphire?
yes, why not. it would be one shinny hotel....
Sapphires and rubies, both corundum are already synthesized for jewelry use since a process for this was invented by Auguste Verneuil in the early 1900's. However, the costs for your hotel might be still higher than you expect. The production is done with specialized equipment having crystals grow on a seed crystals under high pressure and temperature mostly. For lower end qualities the process is flame-fusion which goes faster and is cheaper. Still expect to pay dollars for 1 ct of end product, which is 0,2 grams weight !
this is certainly ummmm...................................鈥?idea? sounds shiny!
